Cristobal Catalan died at the Levante Hospital last Sunday after taking ill the previous evening .

He was the son of a former mayor of Benidorm .

He was admitted to hospital with severe stomach pains , which subsided .

Later his condition worsened and surgery revealed an intestinal thrombosis .

He was director of the Hotel Real de Faula golf club , a keen golfer and was well known in the town .
