Marbella Town Hall Corruption

Three ex-members of the Marbella town hall are on trial for using their influence to favour a particular building company .

The defence lawyer and the public prosecutor have reached an agreement over the sentencing of  Juan Antonio Roca.

This would be 9 months in prison plus a 2.4 million euro fine or an extra month in prison if the fine is not paid .

Other council employees have accepted sentences ranging from 1 year in prison to an 8 year ban on taking any public office .

The case dates back to 1997 when Belmonsa was given permission to build a 12 storey building on a piece of land , of which part was set to be a road .

Roca worked for the company Planeamientos 2000 and made a deal with the Marbella councillors on trial.

The municipal land which Belmonsa built  on was valued at just over 84,000 euros when in fact it was worth more than 2 million .
