When a man in Villajoyosa sprayed himself and his car with petrol and then set himself alight it caused two police officers to suffer burns .

The policemen tried to dissuade the man from following his threats but to no avail .

One policeman had first degree burns and the other second degree burns to parts of their bodies .

They were both treated at the Levante Hospital in Benidorm as was the man who attempted suicide .

It appears that he had been thrown out of his home that morning and also had other personal problems .
